Liberals Plan Activity Centre Repeal if They Win Government
Liveable Victoria, the umbrella group which Save Armadale supports, met recently with three Liberal parliamentarians, including David Southwick, the shadow minister for planning, Georgie Crozier and John Pesutto.
The Liberal Party confirmed its intention to repeal the changes introduced by the Activity Centre Program as soon as possible, if elected to Government. The previous zoning and heights would be restored. Planning for housing growth will be returned to local councils with the expectation that local councils will update existing plans in consultation with local communities and in a timely manner.
The Liberals also intend to repeal the Development Facilitation Program’s Fast Track pathway that enables housing and significant development to be approved by the Minister for Planning. Fast tracks enable developers to sidestep councils and all planning rules including heights, setbacks, garden requirements and heritage protection in any residential zone including those outside Activity Centre catchments.
